Why we started Oterion
We did not set out to build a compliance platform. We were building software and regulation kept finding us. The most demanding case was software we built to support running clinical trials. Getting it deployed meant meeting a long list of regulatory requirements, and that is where terms like audit trail, role- and attribute-based access control and documented processes and procedures stopped being abstract. They were the difference between going live and not.
It showed up with our clients too. Before anyone would sign, they wanted documented SOPs, proof that our staff was trained, an insurance policy, evidence that we actually did what we said we did. So we learned compliance the hard way, by doing it.
Then we launched Hubeg, our own SaaS in the fitness space and the same work came back. We had the knowledge but it lived everywhere: in Excel, SOP's and evidence in SharePoint, training records in someone's inbox, half of it out of date by the time anyone looked. Pulling it together for a single review took days.
Thousands of companies are in exactly this position. Small teams, real regulatory obligations, no tooling built for them. So in 2024 we started building Oterion, the platform we wished we had. It does the repetitive work of mapping regulations, collecting evidence and finding gaps, so the people doing compliance can spend their time on the decisions that need judgment.
We are based in the EU and built for the EU. Our lawyers know the regulations; our engineers build security-first software. Every design decision starts with one question: does this save a compliance officer time without taking control away from them?
